About Salbutamol
Salbutamol is a sympathomimetic amine classified as a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. It acts by stimulating adenyl cyclase, catalysing the conversion of adenosine triphosphate to cyclic-3',5'-adenosine monophosphate, which induces relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle. First marketed in 1968, the international nonproprietary name is featured on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines and has established monographs in major pharmacopoeias. Worldwide, the substance is formulated into pressurised metered-dose inhalers, dry powder inhalers, respirator solutions, oral liquids, tablets, and intravenous preparations.
