About Mupirocin
Mupirocin is an antibacterial compound derived from Pseudomonas fluorescens. It functions by reversibly binding to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, which subsequently arrests RNA and protein synthesis within the bacterial cell. Recognised on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines and featured in global pharmacopoeias, it was first introduced to medicine in the 1980s. The substance is formulated almost exclusively as topical ointments and creams.
